2024 Member-at-Large - Europe, Middle East, Africa Region Candidate

Position Statement

As a worldwide organization deeply involved in all aspects of communication and networking, it is critical for ComSoc to consistently cater to its members' needs. This entails creating opportunities for our members from industry, government, and academia to connect and exchange innovative ideas. It is thus essential to offer high-quality technical platforms and fora, support standardization initiatives, and foster networking and mentorship opportunities. We must also develop initiatives tailored to the diverse demands of our membership and actively back our members' technical endeavors. If elected as a Member-at-Large, my objectives will include:

  • To ensure representation of diverse perspectives across our conferences, journal publications, and committees;
  • To uphold ComSoc's leading position in communication technology, by supporting ComSoc's endeavors in adapting and evolving alongside technological advancements;
  • To help ComSoc implement strategies to value the professional growth of our members, and make ComSoc more inclusive to new members, including students and early-career professionals.

Biography

Carla Fabiana Chiasserini is Full Professor at Politecnico di Torino, Italy, and a Research Associate with the National Research Council (CNR) and Inter-university Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT). She is also a WASP Guest Professor at Chalmers Institute of Technology, Sweden. She was a Visiting Researcher at UC San Diego (1998-2003), and a Visiting Professor at Monash University (2012, 2016), TUB (2021, 2022), and HPI (Mercato Fellow, 2023). She is an IEEE Fellow and an ACM Distinguished Member. 

She is the director of the Advanced Wireless Experience Lab at Politecnico di Torino. Her research interests include Next-generation Mobile Networks, Edge Computing, Machine Learning, and Mobile Autonomous Systems. She has published over 350 journal and conference papers and has received several awards for her scientific work. She has served as member of the IEEE ComSoc Emerging Technologies Standing Committee, Vice Editor-in-Chief of Computer Communications, and Editor-at-Large of the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking.
