2024 Member-at-Large - Latin America/North America Region Candidate

Position Statement

I have been a ComSoc and IEEE volunteer for about two decades. If elected, I shall serve our community whole heartedly with integrity, dedication, and enthusiasm. With my experiences in ComSoc and IEEE leadership activities (in publications, conferences, and various ComSoc assemblies), I am well prepared to serve as a Member of the ComSoc Board of Governors. I shall work with other ComSoc volunteers and leadership on improving the effectiveness and affordability of the ComSoc services and activities including conferences, especially to the student members and young professionals, promoting diversity (gender, geographical) and engagement with our colleagues in developing regions, and promoting industry engagement. I shall work toward maintaining the high standards/reputations/visibility of our publications (journals, magazines, best readings, technology news, and other online contents), enhancing our publications portfolio, streamlining the activities of the different technical committees, and developing new educational and training services for our membership. 

Biography 

Ekram Hossain (F’15) is a Professor and the Associate Head (Graduate Studies) in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Manitoba, Canada. He is a Member of the College of the Royal Society of Canada, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and also a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada. He was listed as a Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher in Computer Science from 2017-2023. He served as the ComSoc Director of Online Content (2022-2023), Director of Magazines (2020-2021), the Technical Program Committee Chair for the IEEE ICC 2022, the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials (2012-2016), an Area Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications (2009-2011), a Guest Editor for 10 special issues for several ComSoc sponsored/co-sponsored Journals/Magazines, and a Distinguished Lecturer. He also served in a number of other ComSoc Councils/Committees (e.g. Marketing Committee, IT Committee, Fellow Evaluation Committee).
