2024 Member-at-Large - Latin America/North America Region Candidate

Position Statement

With a track-record of 20+ years of service with ComSoc and a rich experience at various levels (student, member, TC member, TC officer, GITC, TEA-C and TCB, BOG, and numerous committees), I have demonstrated a deep understanding of ComSoc services/issues and members benefits/concerns, a strong leadership and a strong execution and problem-solving ability, and honesty, integrity, and professionalism in IEEE services. I have strived to promote new technologies and contribute to ComSoc’s key technical areas, offer lectures to IEEE local chapters (23 chapters), conference tutorials (IEEE CVPR 2022 and 2020, ICC’2022, etc.), and IEEE ComSoc schools. As TC Board Director for 2022-2023 and 2024-2025, I worked closely with all the TCs. 

If elected as ComSoc MaL, I will be dedicated to volunteering for IEEE and ComSoc service at all levels, to better serve ComSoc members and make ComSoc better as a home for professionals in the area of communications.

Biography 

Shiwen Mao is a Professor and Earle C. Williams Eminent Scholar, and Director of the Wireless Engineering Research and Education Center at Auburn University, Auburn, AL. His research interest includes wireless networks, multimedia communications, and machine learning. He is a Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE ComSoc and RFID Council. He is the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Cognitive Communications and Networking, and the General Chair of IEEE INFOCOM 2022, TPC Chair of IEEE INFOCOM 2018, and TPC Vice-Chair of IEEE GLOBECOM 2022. He received the IEEE ComSoc MMTC Outstanding Researcher Award in 2023, the SEC 2023 Faculty Achievement Award for Auburn, the 2019 IEEE TC-CSR Distinguished Technical Achievement Award, the 2018 Auburn Creative Research & Scholarship Award, the NSF CAREER Award in 2010, and many service and best conference/journal paper and demo awards from the IEEE and Elsevier. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, IET, and AAIA.
