2024 Member-at-Large - Latin America/North America Region Candidate

Position Statement

For over 50 years, IEEE ComSoc has been leading the global communications technology evolution. As we navigate the ongoing expeditious technological and societal transformation, both ComSoc and our community are encountering new challenges in achieving the strategic goal of IEEE – Advancing Technology for Humanity. If elected, I pledge to serve all ComSoc members and stakeholders by:

  • Supporting all ComSoc members to effectively participate in the forefront of communications research, application and education activities, while strengthening ComSoc’s leadership in driving global innovation.
  • Engaging ComSoc members at different levels, especially junior researchers, and supporting their career development through ComSoc service participation and achievement recognition.
  • Promoting more accessible publications by encouraging online supplementary content, results reproducibility and codes sharing.
  • Enhancing industry-academia interactions and collaborations through mutually engaging activities with increased membership value propositions.
  • Strengthening collaborations among ComSoc Chapters across different IEEE Regions, while fostering inclusiveness and diversity to enrich ComSoc's culture and values.

Biography 

Xianbin Wang (Fellow) is a Professor and Tier-1 Canada Research Chair at Western University, Canada. During the last 25 years, he has worked in industry, government and academia, focusing on innovating 3G~6G communications systems. Through his over 600 highly cited publications, 35 patents and supervision of 200 students, he has advanced several critical areas of communications and networking including physical layer security, 5G/6G and Internet-of-Things. 

He has served ComSoc community under various capacities including Chapter Chair, Section Chair, Area Chair, Student Branch Counselor, and Member of Award and Nomination Committees in Region 7 of IEEE. He was the Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary of ComSoc SPCC Technical Committee. He has been involved in the organization of over 50 conferences including GLOBECOM, ICC and PIMRC in pivotal leadership roles. He has served/is serving as the Editor-in-Chief, Editor/Guest Editor for over ten journals. He is a Fellow of IEEE, CAE and EIC.
