2024 Member-at-Large - Latin America/North America Region Candidate

Position Statement

I have served as a tireless volunteer in IEEE ComSoc for 20 years, contributing concretely to conferences, publications, and technical activities. If elected, I would be honoured to serve ComSoc with my extensive experience to build a stronger and more inclusive ComSoc. I commit to:

  • Ensure the high-quality of ComSoc conferences and publications, and make them accessible to a broader public;
  • Foster ComSoc’s leadership in interdisciplinary fields and strengthen cooperation with other Societies;
  • Broaden and strengthen collaborations between Industry and Academia, promoting industry participation in conferences, publications, and committees;
  • Enhance the diversity and inclusiveness (including gender, geographic region, seniority, and ethnicity) within ComSoc and ensure equal opportunities;
  • Work for an effective globalization of our Society, against berries that may hinder participation of members from all Regions;
  • Support student members and young professionals by promoting mentoring and training programs, tutorial webinars, and other affordable professional development and educational opportunities.

Biography 

Jiang (Linda) Xie is a Fellow of the IEEE, and a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, USA, since 2015. Her research interests include wireless networking and mobile computing.

She has served on the Editorial Boards of many IEEE ComSoc Journals, as well as on the Technical Program Committees of several flagship ComSoc conferences ICC/GLOBECOM and INFOCOM, as a Technical Program Co-Chair/Vice-Chair, Area Chair, and Symposium Co-Chair. She served on the GLOBECOM/ICC Technical Content (GITC) Committee for 6 years as a Voting Member, Vice-Chair, and Chair. She is a member of the ComSoc Conference Council (2022-2025). Currently, she serves on the ComSoc Board of Governors as the Director for Conference Development (2024-2025). She also won the prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2010 and a few best conference paper awards from the IEEE.
