The IEEE Pre-University STEM Portal Grant Program is now accepting proposals to receive funding for 2023 Pre-University STEM activities.  This year, ComSoc is contributing US$1000 to fund grants with a communications engineering focus (grants at various funding levels are available).  Grant proposals will be accepted from 1-28 February 2023.  This is open to any IEEE Member.  Funding is available to support the implementation of an IEEE pre-university program and can be used for materials, venue fees, supplies, etc.

Supporting local Pre-University STEM activities is a high priority objective for ComSoc in 2023.  This grant program is one of several other strategies for meeting this objective. We highly encourage ComSoc Chapters to take advantage of the opportunity to submit a proposal in this program.

When preparing your proposal, please keep the following criteria in mind.  Your proposed program should support the mission of IEEE and must be implemented by an IEEE operating unit, for example a Section or Chapter.  It also must fit into one or more of the following Pre-University categories:  Event (such as camps, workshops, career days, etc), Program (such as Girls in STEM, Mentoring, Parent Program), and/or Resources (such as games, hands-on activities, videos, etc).  For full details on the funding criteria and for more examples of the types of programs, events, and resources that can be funded, please refer to the IEEE Pre-University STEM Portal Grant Program web page.  Remember, if your program is related to a communications engineering topic, please be sure to select “Communication Engineering” in the Engineering Discipline section when submitting your grant proposal.  Note that ComSoc will be directly involved in reviewing proposals and awarding grants in the “Communication Engineering” category.

Various levels of funding are available to support these activities.  You will submit your proposal directly through the IEEE Pre-University STEM Portal Grant Program web page.  If your program is selected for funding, an official report about your activity is required to be submitted by 1 December 2023.  We also encourage you to submit your ComSoc related Pre-University STEM Programs through vTools as noted in this recent article, so that the ComSoc community can be aware of your efforts in this area.  Announcements of grant awards for this program will be completed on 1 April 2023.
