IEEE Communications Standards Magazine invites applications/nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief for a two–year term starting on 1 January 2024. The term is renewable for up to additional two years.

The Magazine is jointly sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society, and IEEE Standards Association. It is a platform for presenting and discussing a broad variety of standards-related topics in the area of communications. This quarterly magazine covers areas of communication and networking standards, as well as the role of standards in technical innovation in communications, the effect of intellectual property on communication technology standardization, and research on standardization methodologies in communications. Contributions are encouraged from areas and disciplines that impact the development, adoption, and impact of communications standards on industry and society, such as standards development processes, economics of standards, and the role of national and international policies and regulations on standardization.

Nominee:

The candidate must be a member in good standing of IEEE ComSoc. He/she should be a leader internationally recognized in the ComSoc community and have a broad perspective on the field of communications. The candidate must have commendable editorial experience, diversified technical expertise, the vision to lead an editorial team to identify hot and important topics, and attract high-quality articles in communications research and engineering practices. Other required qualities include integrity and ethical standards, and organizational and management skills. Applicants will be considered for this position without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, or political affiliation.

The duties of the EiC include interacting with the Technical Editors, the Special Issue editors, the ComSoc publications staff, and also authors. The EiC must ensure that the Magazine follows the IEEE Policy and Procedures, prepare a report for the IEEE Periodicals Review and Advisory Committee (PRAC) when requested, execute the policies established by the Editorial Board, and maintain the intellectual integrity, technical rigor, and timely operation of the Magazine.

The Editor-in-Chief will report to the Steering Committee. He/She will serve on and be a voting member of the ComSoc Magazines Board. The Editor-in-Chief is expected to participate in the ComSoc Magazines Board meetings during the ComSoc Publications Council meetings, and to organize/lead Editorial Board meetings at least at IEEE ICC and IEEE Globecom.

Nominations must include:

  1.  Names of candidate and nominator (self-nominations are possible).
  2.  A brief biography of the nominee of no more than one page.
  3.  A summary statement of the candidate’s editorial experience, also including name(s) and contact information of EiCs who have worked with the candidate.
  4.  Statement of interest of up to 500 words stating the nominee’s vision for the magazine and special qualifications for the position.
  5.  The candidate’s full CV.

The elements of the nomination package should be combined in a single pdf file with the nominee’s CV appended at the end and a labeling clearly indicating the name of the nominee.
