IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Educational Services Board, Women in Communications Engineering Committee (WICE), and IEEE TryEngineering (an IEEE Educational Activities program) are looking for inspiring and re-usable events created by ComSoc Members that help to ignite excitement in younger students to explore careers in communication technologies.  With this goal in mind, we are happy to announce the 2023 Pre-University STEM Education Event Contest that is accepting entries now through the extended deadline of 20 October 2023.

The contest is open to all IEEE ComSoc Members and entries are welcome from individuals or teams.  Contest submissions must include documentation for events within ComSoc’s technical scope (communications engineering and technology) and need to be delivered in 2023 (past or future events in 2023 only). Quality and clarity of the documentation is one of the primary judging criteria. Projects should be exciting, engaging, and delivered in a format that is appropriate for younger students to understand. Events must highlight communication concepts, technologies or careers.  Some sample topic areas include: Wireless technology; Network design and architecture; Optical technology; Internet of Things (IoT); Satellite technology; and

Security. All events submitted for this contest must be listed in IEEE vTools.  When you are creating an event in vTools, be sure to choose Pre-U STEM Program in the Event Category and COM19 in the Society/Affinity Group section. All entries must label their event in one of these event categories:

  • Camps
  • Competitions/STEM Fairs
  • Girls In STEM
  • Mentoring
  • Student Workshop
  • Teacher Workshop
  • Industry/Company Tour
  • Career Day
  • Parent Program

Winning entries will be selected by early November 2023.  Cash prizes are available for first, second, and third place winners for both past and future events.  View the full details about this contest and the official rules on the ComSoc Pre-University STEM website.
