Welcome!

Dear Readers,

In my role of Vice-President of Technical and Educational Activities, it is with great pleasure that I introduce the first issue of the ComSoc Educational Activities Newsletter.

Indeed, Education represents the third pillar of ComSoc and several volunteers are actively involved in providing effective education and training initiatives to our members.

We aim to convey all required information to access our ever growing list of training courses, face-to-face learning initiatives and other related information in a single publication to our readership.

Thanks for signing up for this newsletter, we hope that you will find several interesting materials to foster your curiosity and build a stronger knowledge in the communications field!

Update on the IEEE ComSoc School Series

IEEE ComSoc has been offering an ongoing program, which has developed into the IEEE ComSoc School Series and was designed to further enhance the education of IEEE ComSoc Student Members and help kick-start the careers of new professionals, Ph.D. candidates, and researchers in wireless communications.  IEEE ComSoc School Series events generally feature a highly interactive classroom environment with an intense focus on learning the cutting-edge trends in communications technology, as well as laboratory tours, demonstrations, hands-on workshops and networking activities.

In July 2019, an IEEE ComSoc Summer School was hosted at the National Instruments campus in Austin, Texas, USA.  Students from around the globe participated in this program that included presentations by experts from both industry and academia; a tour of the National Instrument 5G Lab; a networking dinner at Top Golf; and student led lightning talks.

On 5-8 November, 34 students from 20 different countries participated in the  IEEE ComSoc Autumn School hosted at Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions in Barcelona, Spain. The program included presentations from seven university professors and industry experts, which focused on 5G cellular wireless networks, network slicing, data analytics, data-driven communication, Software Defined Networks (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), and vertical applications.  You can view more details about the program on the ComSoc Series website.

More IEEE ComSoc School Series programs are being planned for 2020.  Stay tuned for more information in upcoming newsletters.
