In the 2022 edition of the Journal Citation Reports, prepared by Clarivate/Web of Science, the Impact Factor (IF) of IEEE JASC has been upgraded to 13.081, up from 9.144. With this, IEEE JSAC is #3 in the area of Telecommunications, out of 115 ranked journals; #1 is taken by is IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials (IF=33.840), while #2 is IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine (IF=13.609). In the overall area of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, IEEE JSAC is #7 out of 346 ranked journals.

The credit for this ranking goes to the authors, Guest Editors, Senior Editorial Board and, especially, the two past Editors in Chief, Raouf Boutaba and Muriel Médard.

From the set of articles that have been taken into account for this ranking, below is the list of 10 most cited works. Five among those articles are dealing with the topic of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), sometimes called Intelligent Reflective Surfaces (IRS), which reflects (pun intended) the excitement in the research community about the possibilities for changing wireless communications by controlling the wireless propagation environment. The other highly cited works deal with federated learning, wireless information and power transfer, multi-antenna systems, privacy and space-air-ground integrated network.

We hope to keep the momentum of getting relevant and high-quality publications in the upcoming special issues, which can be found at the IEEE JSAC website. As it can be noted, there are special issues that have higher relevance for the industry, such as “3GPP Technologies: 5G-Advanced and Beyond” and “Digital Twins for Mobile Networks”. The list below, consisting of highly cited articles, is biased towards the physical layer; we do hope to get special issue proposals and publications that are dealing with the higher layers of the protocol stack. We are constantly looking for new proposals in areas that can advance the area of communication engineering and networking, as well as establish links towards other disciplines.
