Call for Papers

Machine intelligence is everywhere in the modern world fostered by connected smart devices and computers with accelerated processors and GPUs to perform advanced machine learning tasks. Green communications and networking technologies, like LoRa, 5G/6G, and NB-IoT, make it easier to collect data energy-efficiently and develop novel applications at a low-cost. Machine intelligence and green communications bring artificial intelligence (AI) to smart cities among other domains, to enable better management of network resources, optimize operations and efficiency, and provide a more sustainable environment and user-centric services.  Built on the advancing wireless infrastructures, the key question is how to make use of artificial intelligence in green communications and networking to better support smart cities.

The vision of smart cities has motivated many scientific and engineering challenges for both academia and industry, in order to fully exploit the capabilities and benefits brought by green networking and communications with machine intelligence. Some important areas related to these topics are machine learning for green communications and networking, green communications and networking for smart cities, AI-enabled energy-efficient computing and communications for smart cities, novel smart city applications with AI and green communications.

This Special Issue calls for papers related to the use of machine intelligence for green computing, communications, and networking for smart cities. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  • AI and edge computing for green smart cities
