Special Feature

Call for Papers

Quantum biology has gained revived interest with the improvement of our methods and techniques for observation of living systems. It focuses on quantum phenomena that drive biological processes. The hypothesis that quantum phenomena do not propagate to biological scales due to noisy biological environments gave way to new discoveries in which the same noisy environments assist and enhance quantum effects. One of the most popular avenues in quantum biology is the study of quantum coherence in photosynthesis: the body of work in this area illustrates both the wealth of concepts and techniques quantum biology has to offer, and the debates in the scientific world it sparks. This Special Feature seeks submissions involving quantum biology explaining communication processes, information transfer/processing, or networks in biology.

Topics of Interest include (but are not limited to):

  • Quantum mechanics of DNA/RNA
  • Quantum effects in photosynthetic complexes
  • Hypomagnetic field effects on living matter, magnetoreception, magnetosensibility
  • Quantum effects in the brain
  • Ion channels and quantum mechanics
  • Bio-inspired synthetic systems with quantum effects
  • Quantum perspective on enzyme catalysis
  • Intracellular and intercellular quantum communications
  • Quantum tunnelling and viruses
