Call for Papers

The world we are living in is rapidly evolving into a hybrid world integrated and designed within cyber, physical, and social spaces also referred to as Cyber-Physical-Social Systems (CPSS). CPSS, an emerging paradigm, will provide efficient, convenient, and personalized services to humans. Data records of users’ trajectories and contents require novel methods of data collection, data processing, and data analysis for CPSS.

One of the primary research goals in data analysis is to extract the historical trend and timely behavior of both global (large-scale and long-term) and local (small-scale, short-term, and real-time) data. Systematic analysis of both types of data is essential to address the requirements and interests of users. However, different characteristics of data necessitate a variety of computing and networking paradigms for data computation and analysis. Cloud provides on-demand high computing platforms by integrating network, server, storage, and application resources for large-scale, long-term data. This computing and networking platform is, therefore, suitable for developing novel, scalable computational strategies for global data. Fog/Edge computers integrate a large number of distributed, static, and mobile devices. They enable computing and networking to be performed closer to the data source to reduce the long data transfer latency associated with cloud computing. Fog/Edge computing and networking is, therefore, suitable for computation and analysis of local data. To effectively integrate cloud and fog/edge computational resources, developing high-performance computing and networking methodologies are essential for data analytics in CPSS.

The objective of this Special Issue is to assemble research contributions in the areas of computing and networking for data analytics that illustrate the latest solutions and research findings. The Special Issue will be advertised using various mailing lists in order to solicit original technical manuscripts with novel contributions dealing with computing and networking for cyber-physical-social systems. Authors of selected papers accepted and presented at the 13th IEEE International Conference on Cyber, Physical, and Social Computing (CPSCom-2020) to be held in November 2020 at Rhode Island, Greece, will be also invited to submit extended versions of their contributions. (To be considered for this Special Issue, at least 50% of new content extension from the conference paper is required while the similarity score should be less than 30%.)

The topics of interest for this special issue include, but are not limited to:

  • Large-scale data analytics in cloud/fog/edge computing and networking
  • Distributed computing for data analytics in cloud/fog/edge computing
  • Green cloud/fog/edge computing in data analytics
  • CPSS high-performance data processing
  • CPSS data-driven services
  • CPSS quality of experience and quality of services
  • Optimization and analytics of CPSS data
  • Low-power parallel CPSS data processing.

The papers for rigorous and well-coordinated peer-review process will be collected through the Manuscript Central System for IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering.

Submission Guidelines

Prospective authors are invited to submit their manuscripts electronically, adhering to the IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering guidelines. Note that the page limit is the same as that of regular papers. Please submit your papers through the online system and be sure to select the special issue or special section name. Manuscripts should not be published or currently submitted for publication elsewhere. Please submit only full papers intended for review, not abstracts, to the ScholarOne portal. If requested, abstracts should be sent by e-mail directly to the Guest Editors.
