Call for Papers

The IEEE Communications Standard Magazine calls for articles in the area of Cloud and Edge Computing to address the main issues concerned with evolving processes and supporting pedagogies and applications in the cloud computing, networking, and storages. There have been advances in both cloud and edge computing that have affected this line of technology.

Paradigms such as computing in virtualization-based architecture, and the use of DN/NFV in clouds, are of special interests for this issue. We are also especially interested in articles that address communications and networking for clouds and fogs and edge computing supported by evidences through simulations, analysis, or experiments.

This special issue of the magazine focus on both technological and standard as well as theoretical aspects of cloud and edge computing. Main tracks of the special issue have been identified in the following list. However, innovative contributions that do not easily fit into these areas but are of significant importance such as case studies, validation testbeds, prototypes will also be considered as long as they are directly related to the overall theme of this issue of the magazine:

This Series Topic (ST) seeks articles on recent developments and future directions for cloud and edge computing standards. Papers describing original work are solicited. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Platforms, infrastructures and applications
  • Cloud computing and SDN/NFV
  • Virtualization across data centers and storages
  • Cloud computing and big data
  • Data Center Network (DCN) architectures
  • Communications and networking for clouds
  • Fogs/cloud and edge computing
  • Cloud computing and on-demand computing models
  • Geographical constraints for deploying clouds
  • Privacy, security, ownership and reliability issues
  • Cloud performance, QoS, and dynamic resource provisioning
  • Load balancing and application streaming
  • Roaming and mobile services in clouds
  • Content and service distribution
  • Enterprise-centric cloud computing
  • Public, private, and hybrid clouds
