Special Issue

Call for Papers

Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is promising for computation-intensive applications (such as autonomous and cooperative driving) and storage burdens (video caching) in Internet of Vehicles (IoV). It paves the way for the establishment of intelligent transportation systems and smart cities. While MEC in IoV has attracted much interest, many challenges have not been addressed, for example: how to build an efficient network framework with MEC in IoVs; how to place MEC servers to serve a massive number of users; and how to design offloading, caching and communication strategies for vehicles to boost system performance.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has recently emerged as a powerful weapon to break through obstacles in various research areas (such as pattern recognition, image processing and natural language processing), which empowers the system to be smart enough to make decisions based on the environment’s status, even with high-dimensional inputs. In light of this potential, this special issue provides a venue for original research and review articles to all readers of the magazine regardless of their specialty.

This Special Issue (SI) will cover architectures, algorithms and technologies for AI-empowered MEC in IoV. Prospective authors from both academia and industry are invited to submit original manuscripts on topics including, but not limited to:

  • AI-empowered approach to distributed MEC in IoV
  • AI-empowered approach to energy-aware MEC in IoV
  • AI-empowered approach to MEC-enabled traffic offloading in IoV
  • AI-empowered approach to an MEC-enabled routing plan in IoV
  • Architecture and framework establishment for AI-empowered MEC in IoV
  • Resource management models and solutions for AI-empowered MEC in IoV
  • Security and privacy-preserving approaches for AI-empowered MEC in IoV
  • Novel applications based on AI-empowered MEC in IoV
  • Testing and evaluation tools for AI-empowered MEC in IoV
  • The future for AI-empowered MEC in IoV: challenges and open issues
