Special Issue

Call for Papers

In recent years, cloud computing has become an emerging technology for many network applications that deeply change our daily lives. Various cloud-based platforms today are deployed to support new applications for complex tasks such as face recognition, autonomous systems, intelligent robotics, etc. In order to fit these applications, distributed cloud systems are a novel and attractive approach compared with the traditional centralized ones. Distributed cloud systems can realize an efficient and powerful net-working system for data by including, various networking components finish the task of not only collecting and transmitting data but also process data. Particularly, novel technologies such as the edge computing systems present a practical and promising approach, which unites smaller, more agile interconnected devices spread across geographies and let them serve as the distributed cloud nodes. This is an emerging type of distributed architecture that allocates workloads to various end devices.

In this Special Issue, we aim to thoroughly investigate the novel solutions of advanced data collection, transmission, storage, and processing methods for converged computing and communications of distributed cloud. Particularly, we seek novel solutions for novel data processing, compression, verification methods to fulfill the efficiency and robustness needs of data collected by the edge computing devices to serve the intelligent tasks. For instance, instead of existing general data compression and transmission, we expect solutions such as task-oriented data compression and rebuilding methodologies that can achieve better efficiency and robustness of computing for specific intelligent tasks. We welcome submissions from both academia and industry that address the fundamental challenges and opportunities in distributed cloud. The topics of interest of this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:

  • The Convergence of Computing and Communications
  • New Architecture Design for Distributed Cloud
  • Intelligent Resource Management in Distributed Cloud
  • High Performance Computing Techniques in Distributed Cloud
  • New Communication Infrastructure and Components for Distributed Cloud
