Pre-University Hands-On Activity Contest Winners

A team of volunteer judges from IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Educational Services Board, Women in Communications Engineering Committee (WICE), and the TryEngineering Program of the IEEE Educational Activities Board (EAB) diligently worked to review the significant number of entries received for the Pre-University Hands-On Activities Contest. The objective of this contest was to identify imaginative and innovative hands-on activities designed to explain communication technologies topics to Pre-University students. The contest team was overjoyed with the response and the number of creative ideas that were submitted. The team expresses its gratitude to all contest participants and would like to recognize that it is members like you that will inspire the next generation of communications engineers.
The entries that stood out as being exceptional and fully met the terms of the contest were selected as winners in the various age categories. Congratulations to these winning entries for sharing creative activities for use with Pre-University children in these various age groups:

Pre-University STEM Event Near Marconi Milestone Location, 27 September 2022

With a location close to an important milestone in telecommunications, where Italian Nobel laureate Guglielmo Marconi in Coltano sent a signal to light up the Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro in 1931, Pisa, Italy seems only fitting to host the first ComSoc sponsored Pre-University event. This inaugural program will be held during the BRIGHT festival (European night of research) followed by additional workshops to be held during the Internet Festival in Pisa, Italy.

Educating Teachers on Communications Technology in Pune, India, 8 September 2022

Teachers in the Pre-University levels have a significant influence and impact on the formative minds of students at these ages. Among the ways ComSoc Chapter Members can influence local Pre-University Education in their communities is by educating teachers. ComSoc volunteers in Pune, India successfully designed and delivered workshops to help these Pre-University teachers learn more about communications engineering technologies and empower them to instruct their students on these topics.
